Honda Accord VSA Light: Causes & How to Reset It

- Vehicle Stability Assist — the Accord's stability + traction control.
- Accord quirk
- Can trip after a weak battery / jump-start (low voltage).
- On with the CEL?
- Fix the engine code first — they share sensors.
- Quick reset
- If VSA OFF was pressed: press again or restart.
On the Accord, a flashing VSA light while driving is normal — the system is actively working. A steady light means it's switched off or has logged a fault. One Accord trigger is low battery voltage, so if it appeared after a jump-start or a weak battery, that's the first thing to check.
The VSA light on a Honda Accord can come from something simple or from a real fault. VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) is the Accord’s stability and traction control system, and the light comes on when that system is switched off or has logged a fault. This guide covers the Accord-specific causes; for how VSA works and the full reset steps, see the main Honda VSA light guide.
An Accord VSA trigger to check first: battery voltage
If your Accord’s VSA light appeared after a jump-start, a weak battery, or a battery replacement, start there. The VSA control unit needs steady voltage, and a drop or interruption makes it set the light as a precaution. Fully charge or replace the battery, drive a short distance, and the light can clear on its own. Check the battery before you replace any sensors.
Other Accord-specific causes
- VSA OFF button pressed — it sits on the lower-left of the dash near the steering wheel, where it’s easy to bump. Press it again or restart.
- Front wheel-speed sensor — higher-mileage Accords can end up with a dirty or failing front hub sensor, which VSA relies on.
- Steering-angle sensor calibration — after an alignment or suspension work, this sensor may need recalibrating, which can light VSA.
- An engine fault — because the Accord shares sensors between the engine and VSA, an engine problem that triggers the check engine light can disable VSA at the same time.
When the VSA light and check engine light are both on
On the Accord, this pairing points to the engine first, not the stability system. Read the code, repair whatever set the Accord check engine light, and the VSA light can clear with it. Don’t start by replacing VSA parts.
Steady vs flashing
- Flashing while you drive: normal — VSA is actively managing traction at that moment (e.g. a wet road). It stops on its own.
- Steady (always on): the system is off or has a stored fault to look into.
How to reset the Accord VSA light
- If VSA OFF was pressed: press the button again or restart the engine.
- If the battery was weak/jump-started: charge or replace it, then drive — the light clears once voltage is stable.
- If it’s paired with the check engine light: fix the engine fault first.
- If it’s a sensor fault: repair the cause, then clear it with a scan tool or let it clear itself.
Forcing the light off without fixing the cause just brings it back. For the full system explainer, see the main VSA guide.
